Going directly to the Synaptics Web site, I discovered a page for generic touch-pad drivers for every operating system from Windows 95 to Windows 7, but no Windows 8 yet.

I solved it! In this solution, I reinstall the original drivers then install a newer version of the Elan touchpad drivers from acer. I set the touchpad device as an ELAN PS/2 Port Input Device instead of a Lenovo pointing device.

I use the pointer to access driver manager so it it's not functioning I cannot do that. No pointer= no browser, no file explorer, no nothing. It highlights but no action. And no hand on a square w/small circle and diagonal (is it the F8?) And how would I know if the touchpad is on or off? It's an ELAN pointer
kaikho, Here is something you can try from forum below. Go to the Acer driver page for your computer. Download the Intel IO chip set drivers for Windows 8.1. Run the setup for the driver in "compatibility mode" and install. You will need to restart the computer. The computer will then recognize the track pad as a valid device. Then download and install the Synaptics (or Elan) driver for Win 10 from the Acer support page and restart. If the track pad is not immediately active on the restart, hit Function F7.
After 2 days of trying to get this to work this did the job!! So if you have an Acer E15 with a newly installed windows 10 and your touchpad isn't working do this!! ^^ I tried the windows 10 driver 500x never thought of the windows 8 working. THANK YOU DUDE!
After trial and error numerous times with the win 8.1 drivers and all nonsense, I noticed that my bios didn't have the option to change touchpad setting from advanced to basic so obviously I needed to update my bios... Change setting and its that's
I recently re-installed windows 8.1 x64 on my Asus UX305FA laptop. It has an ELAN touchpad, I know for a fact it is not synaptic, nor works with those drivers, and to work correctly, requires ASUS smart gesture, as far as I know. During a previous re-install, I managed to get this to work by disabling driver signing enforcement, but somehow, the gestures would constantly reset on reboot, never really found a solution to this (assuming I get this far, I'd like to hear suggestions, I'm thinking I need to freeze some registry entries, but using a scanner, I found 14k entries were changed, related to ELAN). But, now the issue, is that it is showing up as 'microsoft ps/2 mouse' in device manager. I've booted with driver signing check disabled, and manually selected the windows 8.1 x64 drivers, and at the end of the process, I get 'access denied'. I'm an administrator, and I've tried to run device manager in administration mode as well, with the same results. Now, while I'm in this broken driver state, the touchpad works, but I'm unable to do what I most care about, disable tap to select, and allow for disabling the touchpad visa fn+f9. and now, once per day, the mouse will just start moving left at a consistent rate.
I've only used drivers from ASUS's website for this laptop, and it seems they are broken. For the touchpad, I'm trying to install Touchpad_Elantech_Win81_64_VER115162 I've tried to run ./setup.exe, ./x64/setup.exe, ./Disable3Fun.exe, ./install.bat, ./postpatch.bat all while in driver signing enforcement disabled mode. As noted in the installation notes, I have already installed and reinstalled the ATK package Version V1.0.0050 prior to installation. Setup files giving the error that they dont support the current touchpad, as, of course, drivers are not installed for it.
I thought my main account should have sufficient admin rights..tried it anyways, still access denied. Already tried the re-scan bit, ends up not finding the touchpad until I restart, and then using the ps/2 driver again.
In opening up every smart gesture package I could find, I dont find my device ID listed ACPI\SYN0A06, despite saying SYN, it's an ELAN touchpad, everywhere I've looked, and previously installed. But none of these smart gesture packages with drivers contain this device ID. I tried asking the asus forums, but as usual, no responses, it's mostly a useless place.
After upgrading to Windows 10 on my ASUS notebook, I faced some issues like the one with the touchpad. So, I decided to update all the drivers and tools to the latest versions.
I wonder if you have the latest bios for Asus N56VZ for windows 10. I upgraded from Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 10 and most things work. However, I cannot duplicate/mirror my laptop screen to external monitor even though I have updated Intel Video Driver and NVidia drivers to the latest. Also, there has been some issues where a specific program hangs. I suspect bios but could not find any update for N56VZ at the Asus Support page and I did not wish to flash a windows 8.1 bios as I read that some people got a BSOD with that.
I did some research about error Code 43 with NVIDIA and for ASUS laptops (and Dell too) the solution is to reinstall/update the BIOS. Go to the support page for your laptop and download the Windows BIOS Flash Utility (WinFlash) and the BIOS file. More info here. Remember to use the latest NVIDIA driver from the post.
Will these drivers work with any Asus laptop?I had tried an in place update to Win10 64 bit from Win7 64 bit but would have freezes and lock ups and boot issues, with my ASUS K72JK notebook. It would also take long to boot into.I chatted with ASUS on line and they said it sounded like a hardware issue, but it was working fine in Windows 7. They repeated that they felt 10 was not supported as they would have updated the drivers.I had checked the memory with windows memory diagnostics before the clean install and it was clean and the Sea Tools program said my drive was in good health and chkdsk did not find any issues.I have returned to Windows 7 via the recovery and two days in, not one lock up. I wonder if an update to Win 10 NOW will keep all the needed drivers. 2b1af7f3a8
