Here comes the next update on our macOS USB DriverKit driver, see here for former version 4.04 with some more useful information: -audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=35444Version 4.06 has several small improvements in performance and compatibility. It comes with TotalMix FX 1.77 final.
Installation: Double-click on driver_mac_usbdk_406.zip to expand the archive file to the driver file Fireface USB DK 406.pkg. Installation works automatically by a double-click on the pkg (package) file. Users that tried version 4.0 will not see the Allow dialog and button anymore. All others should get that dialog, and before reboot should check that in Security & Privacy, tab General, the RME driver is allowed to load. If not unlock the settings and allow it. Then reboot computer.
NotesA previously installed kernel extension driver, like 3.27, does not need to be uninstalled. It will be overwritten automatically. After that you could set the system security back to normal, unless any other existing kernel extensions still need reduced security.
To go back to 3.27: easiest method is to drag the Fireface USB Settings app found in the folder Applications to the trash can - only use the Finder for this action. With DriverKit this Settings dialog is 'the app', upon removal all driver files belonging to it will also be removed automatically. You will be asked for permission for the removal of the extensions. If done simply reinstall the former 3.27.
As an alternative we also made a version of the 3.27 driver available that should reliably remove the DriverKit extension during its installation, see link below. The one found on our website for download is not guaranteed to always do that.
Now every time I restart my laptop, 2 of the 4 DAWs I use won't remember the audio interface I select, and upon opening the DAW, they automatically change to Macbook Pro internal speakers as the audio interface.
Another issue that only start to happen after updating the driver to 4.06.If I power off and UFX+ and sleep the Macbook Pro overnight, power on the UFX+ and wake up the Macbook pro the next day.Youtube playback on Safari video and audio will be out of sync have to quit safari and reopen in order to solve this issue. Also never have this happen in 3.27 driver
Please be more clear: 'stable' driver means the former kernel driver 3.x? The new DriverKit drivers need different handling from the DAW, as showcased by Cubase which first did not want to use it at all. Ableton and Studio One seem to need an update to handle these correctly.
Having said that I probably won't get access to this new feature as I'm running the only stable driver for M1, the old 1.21 Thunderbolt one. Every attempt so far to try the driverkit ones I get a periodic disconnection between the hardware and Totalmix, and if you use it long enough - brutal pink screens of death that instantly shut down the Macbook and anything connected to it. (check the apple bug report on restart and it is the rme driverkit)
Steps:Boot Mac, Boot Fireface, Switch on Monitors.Totalmix and the FF USB settings launch as expected.Totalmix is set so the Main is assigned to Main Out AN 1/2, which is hooked to my monitors. Software Playback on AN 1/2 is set to zero.Set the volume low, so main shows -30 or whatever. No music / audio, Macbook sleeps after x minutes.Whilst it is asleep, Fireface resets volume to 00, visible on the front panel.Wake Mac, go deaf when a notification triggers.
On previous drivers, I'm certain the FF UC disconnected from the mac when it slept - the red light on the front came on.I don't believe that is the case here - the FF UC doesn't show the red light but must have a... moment... where it forgets the volume set in Totalmix.
I updated from 4.04 to 4.06 yesterday. Today I had a total disaster with MS Teams - Pulsing full volume distortion through the speakers. I restarted Teams, rebooted the machine and still had the same result. Reverted to 4.04 and all was fine.I didn't have any problems with 4.04I use an Aggregate Device for MS Teams (to stop Teams from altering the Mic volume). The only device in the Aggregate is the Babyface Pro fs.I have the BF at 96KHz. The Aggregate device also runs at 96KHz.MS Teams version is 1.5.00.22362 which is Apple Silicon native, but I notice that the Core Audio Driver (MSTeamsAudioDevice.driver) is still Intel.I'm running Monterey 12.6MBP M1 Max 10/32, 64GB RAM, 2TBI do have the BF connected to a USB-A hub, but this has not caused issues in the past with 3.27 or 4.04Firmware is v200 in both use cases.
I ran 4.06 driver install it said it worked. I clicked the Allow button to authorize the loading of the driver and the button disappeared which I am assumed authorized the 4.06 driver. It said the install worked I then tried to run the Flash Update Tool. Which seemed to open but would not give me a window.
The 4.06 driver does not show up in the Library Extensions. The first time I tried this and before the restart, I ran the Security and Privacy systems preference and clicked the allow button (which seemed to work). Each time thereafter the allow button does not show up. However I cannot get past this point and the driver still doesn't show up and the Fireface UC is not recognized. 2b1af7f3a8
