We spoke to Martin Walfisz, the president and CEO of Massive Entertainment, to get his take on the upcoming game. We asked about the team's confidence in Ground Control, how they're addressing the hardcore PC gamer's needs, and more.
Massive Entertainment is a young studio, but they've got a lot of talent on their hands. They have a wealth of experience in this genre, and they're applying that knowledge to their upcoming project. They took their time with development, making sure they took their time to ensure that the game was finished properly. From what we saw, they've definitely put together a very nice package. There are a lot of little things that make the game feel very polished, from the mechanics to the animations. Many of the features in the game are quite impressive, like the customizable equipment and the ability to create your own types of units. Once Ground Control is released, you can check out some screens and a trailer below.
Ground Control is still in it's testing phase, and so there are a few minor bugs that still need to be worked out. However, once the game is released, it should be polished up quite a bit. For one, the tutorial is a bit awkward at times. You'll still need to learn how to play the game, after all, and some of the controls are a bit awkward to use. But once you've mastered them, the combat in Ground Control is really quite smooth. We were able to battle hordes of enemy troops in single player mode without any noticeable lag or stutter in the action. As you attack the enemy, you'll notice your units flying into the air above them, as if to mete out justice. When you're fighting in a rush for an objective, you'll notice that your units speed up dramatically, dropping down on the enemy from above and mowing through them in a flash.
